Sculpture of a pair of Basset Hounds signed E. Frémiet, cast bronze, France, nineteenth century. Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) was a French sculptor known as "the leading sculptor of animals in his day." He is famous for his monumental bronze figure of Joan of Arc in Paris (and its "sister" statue in Philadelphia) and the monument to Ferdinand de Lesseps in Suez.
