1848 (August) Imprisonment at Kilmainham of Thomas Francis Meagher, William S. O'Brien and James O'Rorke. An autographed and inscribed book. An 1842 edition of The Plays of William Shakespeare, owned by James O'Rorke and brought to prison where it was inscribed with quotation and signed by Meagher and O'Brien on 26 August 1848 at Kilmainham Gaol, then signed by Charles Gavan Duffy at Newgate Jail 1 November 1848, Kevin Doherty at Newgate, 2 November 1848, John Dillon, John Deasy and Thomas Grattan Esmonde, all at Melbourne 5 May 1889 and Eamon de Valera 25 March 1961 at Aras an Uachtaráin. A remarkable item spanning 120 years of Irish revolutionaries. James O'Rorke was a Young Irelander and was transported to Australia where he lived for some years.
