Sir Edward Carson: Ceremonial Uniforms (2) as Solicitor General of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
Provenance: The Carson Family; from whom purchased in the 1970s by Peter McBride, Co. Tyrone; thence to a Private Collection, Belfast. A superb collection relating to Ulster Unionists' greatest hero, and arguably one of Britain and Ireland's outstanding lawyers of the last century. Comprises of: two black wool morning coats, both with elaborate gold bullion trimming, gilt buttons with Royal Arms, one decorated on left and right chest, the other plain chest, a pair of trousers with gold filigree stripe, two pairs of knee breeches, one cream, one black; Two pairs of silk stockings, one pair cream, one pair black; a black velvet hat with gold bullion and white ostrich feather trim, gold buttons impressed with Royal Arms; a pair of black patent court shoes with gilt buckles decorated with the emblems of the United Kingdom. Also with this lot Queen Victoria's appointment of Sir Edward as Solicitor General in 1900 on vellum with her Great Seal, contained in a red leather box with Royal Arms impressed in gilt.
