1900. Boer War. Red Cross Identity Card for a member of General Schoeman's Commando Corps.. 18 by 13cm., 7 by 5in. Card issued to the 22 year old Albert van der Westhinzen of the General H. Schoeman Commando. Several members of Major John MacBride's Irish Brigade saw service alongside Westhinzen with the General H. Schoeman Commando following the fall of Johannesburg and the disintegration of the Irish Brigade, including the father and son, Pieter Bower senior and junior. Lot sold with an account of the services of the General Schoeman Commando during the Boer War.
