1922 Military Courts Regulations and 1926 Defence Forces Saorstát Éireann Army List and Directory edited by Commandant WJ Brennan Whitmore and other related books. printed wrappers, 160pp 25 by 17cm., 9.7 by 6.5in. The Military Courts booklet sets out the rules and penalties under which Erskine Childers and many others were tried and executed in the later stages of the Civil War, without recourse to the civil courts. In a decision in September 1922, the Lord Chief Justice found that a state of war or rebellion existed, that the duly constituted Government was entitled to introduce martial law, and that the civil courts had no jurisdiction to intervene in its operation.
