1924-25. Kevin O'Higgins, (1894-1927) and General Seán MacEoin (1893-1973) signatures on documents. O'Higgins' signature as Minister for Justice on two documents appointing Charles Kelly as under-sheriff in County Mayo, and MacEoin's signature as Major General, officer commanding Western Command, congratulating Kelly on his appointment. Charles Kelly served under MacEoin in the War of Independence. MacEoin was famous for the Battle of Ballinalee and was later captured and sentenced to death but released after the Truce. He was appointed Chief of Staff of the Army in 1929, but resigned the same year, and was elected as a TD in 1932. He later served as Minister for Justice and Defence. He stood unsuccessfully as Fine Gael candidate for the Presidency in 1965 and 1959. O'Higgins was assassinated by the IRA in 1927.
