1926 (May) A National Policy by Éamonn de Valera - The Founding of Fianna Fáil. printed wrappers, 24pp 18 by 12cm., 7 by 4.7in. De Valera's speech, delivered at the inaugural meeting of Fianna Fáil at La Scala Theatre, Dublin, May 1926, "amplified and with complementary matter". No. 1. in a series of five proposed pamphlets marking the establishment of Fianna Fáil and authored by Éamon de Valera and Frank Gallagher. The first moves towards establishing Fianna Fáil began in 1926, when on 23rd of March a preliminary meeting took place to form a new party in response to a split in the Sinn Féin movement over issue of abstention from Dáil Éireann. On April 2nd the title Fianna Fáil was adopted and this was followed by the first public meeting on May 16th in the La Scala Theatre, Dublin. At the first Árd Fheis, held on November 24th 1926, Éamon de Valera was elected President. The aim of the new party as stated by de Valera at that time was "The reuniting of Irish people in the pursuit of not only national freedom but the social and economic benefit of all". Rare.
