1791-1792. The Conjurer's Magazine

1791-1792. The Conjurer's Magazine or Magical and Physiognomical Mirror, Volumes I & II. Extremely rare publication. one volume disbound, the other part original boards. 22 by 13cm., 8.5 by 5.2in. "Thomas Cowley 1843", inscribed on one volume. This is No. 179 in Raymond Toole Stott's, A Bibliography of English Conjuring. Some pages are missing, 32 of the Larater plates are present. In need of restoration, poor to fair but extremely rare. Volume I, is August 1791 to July 1792 to July 1793, 520pp. Articles on astrology tended to take over most of the publication by the end of Volume II in 1793, and it changed its name in August of that year to Astrologer's Magazine and ran for only another six issues (these, comprising Volume III. It was the first periodical in which a group advertised themselves openly as "workers of magic" and a great number of tricks are explained such as "A Droll Trick with a Cock".
