Fine American Victorian Carved Walnut Sideboard, c.

Fine American Victorian Carved Walnut Sideboard, c. 1870, George Croome, Boston, with an arched crest with a central shield shaped cartouche with deep relief fruit and nut carving, flanked by leaves, over a shaped upper shelf, above a shaped mirror and a shaped lower shelf, on a shaped base with a central frieze drawer over a lower cupboard flanked by convex door side cupboards, each with deep relief fruit and nut carving flanked by floral and leaf carved columns. The center drawer stenciled underneath "G. Croome, Upholsterer and Maker of Fashionable Furniture, 17 S.____ St., Boston." Note: Croome was a maker and retailer of furniture, similar to Mallard in New Orleans. It is possible that this piece was actually made by Mitchell and Rammelsberg, and simply labeled by Croome for resale. H.- 89 in., W.- 63 1/2 in., D.- 22 in.
