Painted-Porcelain Plaque Female Allegorical Figure

Female allegorical figure representing Knowledge, Learning, or Enlightenment shown drawing the veil of Ignorance from her eyes and holding the illuminated Lamp of Knowledge, hand-painted porcelain oval plaque in a gilded frame with a red-velvet mat, Germany, ca. 1890; no signature or mark is visible. Numerous delicately-rendered details reveal evidence of a highly-skilled hand.

Dimensions: Plaque 6-1/2"H x 4-7/8" diameter; with frame 11"L x 8-3/4"W

On porcelain plaque, a few small touch-ups to background; on frame, separation to upper-left-hand miter joint, with areas of scratching and wear to gilding.
