BAYONET, JAPANESE WWII, SOLDIER FOUND AT OKINAWA

Japanese rifle bayonet, Type 30, made1897-1935, Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) , 15.75" blade, serial number at pommel 88650, wood handle with oval washers, hooked quillon, metal scabbard marked on one side " Okinawa 9/1/45", marked on opposite side "C-inton, --obdy ie Shima 6/7/45", 21"l, 4"w, 1.5lbs NOTE: Ie Shima, an island off of Okinawa was taken by US military forces in April,1945; September 1, 1945 was one day before the Japanese formal surrender on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
