Elegant Three-Piece French Mantel Garniture, third quarter 19th century, the gilt-brass and white alabaster garniture in the Louis XVI style, comprised of a figural mantel clock featuring a lady-of-fashion toying with her jewels, presented on a conforming carved giltwood base, the clock dial with the retailer's mark of A. B. Griswold and Company, New Orleans, h. 15", w. 14", d. 5-1/2", and a pair of chain-draped covered two-handled coupes, h. 12-1/2".
Condition reportThree-Piece French Mantel Garniture: In "as found" condition with scattered damage. The onyx feet of the clock have nicks and old stains. The porcelain dial with light cracks at the left key wind hole. The feet of one garniture have glued repairs and loss to the rear leg. The other garniture has the front apron broken off but present. Rubbing and minor losses to the giltwood bases.
