TENGGREN, Gustaf [Adolf] (1896 - 1970) TrollsWatercolor, ink and pencil (345 x 249 mm). Apparently an unpublished illustration for Bland Tomtar och Troll. signed and dated '1915'. Framed. Gustaf Tenggren first came into prominence in 1917 in his native Sweden when he succeeded John Bauer as the primary illustrator of the popular fairy tale annual Bland Tomtar och Troll. This early influence is evident in his subsequent work for Walt Disney productions, in particular Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) and Pinocchio (1940). He went on to illustrate numerous Golden Books including The Pokey Little Puppy (1942).
