Description
Marie Bruner Burt Haines (American, 1884-1979). "Charley's Cabin". Watercolor on paper. c1930s. Signed "Marie Haines" in pencil, lower left. Dark cream wove paper. 9 13/16 x 13 3/16 in. (249 x 335 mm). Provenance: Deaccessioned from the Bennington Museum, Bennington, Vermont. Three Haines oil paintings recently sold at Skinner's (Boston) on September 11, 2009, for $3,081, $2,133, and $1,896, respectively. A thoroughly accomplished painter, her artistic training was impeccable: Cincinnati Art Academy; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; Art Students League; National Academy of Design; Art Institute of Chicago. In the 1920s she was an early member of the Taos, New Mexico art colony. She is especially well known for her pastel portraits of children. [23496]
