A Myochin-School Iron Articulated Model of a Snake
Meiji period (late 19th century). The russet-iron snake constructed of numerous hammered plates joined inside the body, the head carved with scales and fitted with a hinged jaw opening to reveal a movable tongue, eyes finished in shakudo and gilt. As sold at Christie's Japanese and Korean Art Sale on 18 September 2007, similar to Lot # 188, Theirs was 41.75 inches in length. Pre auction estimate of $5000-$7000, sold for $20000 including buyer's premium. Our's measures as follows: Length 61" by Diameter 1.5".
