Ancient Pre Columbian Tripod Vessel, Comala style, Colima, West Mexico, ca. 200 B.C. - 300 A.D. Earthenware pottery, hand-modeled with a burnished rich, red slip. 14"D x 9-1/4"H.
PROVENANCE: Ex-private Knorr Family Collection, Norfolk, VA, since the 1950s. Vessel was purportedly found at Los Tanques, Colima State.
Mouth rim has been broken into several large sections and repaired with new fill ( about 30% of the everted mouth rim); rest of the entire vessel and all three tripod supports are intact and unbroken. Fine preservation of the burnished slip and with extensive manganese oxide blooms overall.
