"…Both of your letters have been received…The reason you did not hear from me promptly after your first letter is that I had a friend here...whom I took to see an M. D. in Springfield. We clapped her into a hospital for a week and I spent my time on the road and in the hospital…It sometimes seems as though everybody who had a problem on their hands dumped it on my lap and if anyone, acquaintance or stranger thinks up some sort of fool scheme for saving the world or benefiting mankind, I'm sure to find it roosting on my door-step…."
