Pair of Engraved Smith & Wesson Model 3 Second Model Japanese Contract Serial numbers 6770 and 6726. Smith & Wesson Factory Letter States that they were from the Smith & Wesson Factory on July 28, 1877 & delivered to H. Ahrens & Co. London, England, Agents for the Japanese Government. The records indicate they were shipped with a 7 1/2" Barrel, blue finish, & smooth walnut grips. The Japanese Government purchased 5000 units of this model and were Smith & Wessons second largest customer. These Beautifully Engraved guns are said to have once been in the collection of the King of Egypt. The guns feature fine presentation grade engraving, elephant ivory grips srimshawed depicting the family line of Meiji Emperor (Also Known As Mutsuttito) who was reigned from 1867-1912. Was the emperor who saw modernized Japan from a Shogunate to an emerging world power.
