This is a silver tanka of the Shaybanid king Iskandar (1561-1583) struck at Balkh in what is now Afghanistan. In Davidovich this is type #1986 which bears the date 988 AH (1580) but the date is not visible on this example. The calligraphy on Shaybanid coinage is lovely but rare is the coin that gives it a chance to be seen clearly! This piece is similar in size to a US half dollar but much thinner. Retail Value $0.00
