Description
16th century A.D., purportedly found in Colorado or New Mexico originally. Helmet is solid bronze, complete with original rivets and leather inside (this leather can actually be carbon-dated to get its exact age!), worn by a conquistador in their exploration of the New World. Hole in one side of helmet was the result of a fatal blow by another fighting warrior. Accompanying short sword, usually carried/used in the left hand, was meant for stabbing. During this period, most conquistadors had two swords - a long, less detailed one for the right hand and a smaller, more detailed short sword in the left hand (this allowed them to deliver a true one, two blow). The short sword here is a work of art, meant to garner attention, like a dagger; usually inherited. With ivory handle that has taken on a honeydew patina, only brought about by use and age. An exceptional set! Helmet measures 9"H; Short Sword measures just under 15"L.
