American School, 19th Century Miniature Family Portrait with Nursing Mother, circa 1840s, watercolor on ivory, 5-1/4 x 4-1/4 inches (irregular), signature device lower left recto, in a period gilt plaster and wood frame, 11 x 10 x 3 inches. A fine example of miniature portraiture, unusual for its depiction of multiple figures. Provenance: Freeman's, Philadelphia, PA (circa 1940s); Ben Harris, Philadelphia, PA; Dotzie Harris, Philadelphia, PA; by descent to current owner.
