George Nakashima desk, walnut, wall-mounted cabinet with vertical grilled sliding doors lined with original pandanus cloth, attached walnut slab Conoid top with single leg, cabinet with dovetail joints at top corners, interior consists of two shelves, four small drawers, and one small drawer above a file drawer, interior lined in oak wood, original finish, unsigned, provenance available, cabinet 90"w x 16"d x 18.25"h, desktop: 78"w x 36"d x 28.75"h, very good original condition
Provenance: per Robert Aibel, the desk was purchased by Shuttleworth from Pittsburgh, PA. It was ordered by interior designer Paul Planert in 1968 and completed in 1969.
Condition
Minor nicks and roughness to the underside edge of the top. No chips or losses. A few minor scuffs to the legs. There are two carved-out/recessed areas under the top. No water rings or stains. No damage to the doors or the door backing. Holes have been cut out of the back for electrical cords: 6 holes, the largest of which is 5" x 5".. The desk top fits into the hanging cabinet via pegs. Sturdy and structurally sound. The cabinet is mounted to the wall so that it is 8 inches off the floor.
