839. Deborah Kerr "Anna" signature gown from The King and I by Irene Sharaff. (20th Century-Fox, 1956) Irene Sharaff won the Oscar for best costume design(color) for her work on this film, which featured this signature gown for the lead female role played by Deborah Kerr, who was nominated for her portrayal. Consisting of an extremely long pleated floor-length skirt with sweeping train fashioned of a medium-copper satin, heavily lined and with snap & hook closure, and a light-copper satin corset/bodice with vertical fluted ribs and zippered back, with Elizabethan "puffy" sleeves covered in lace with hundreds of clear sparkling decorations attached. Skirt and Bodice both bear the internal stamp of Fiddlers Costume and Design, and both are inscribed "#148Z". In Fine screen-worn condition, showing some wear and light staining only at bottom surface of skirt where it dragged on floor during dance sequences, a few scattered stains and rubs, and minor distress to lace sleeve covers.
