Description
1036. Screen-used Behemoth puppet from The Nightmare Before Christmas. (Buena Vista, 1993) This screen-used Behemoth was also called The Farmhand, Hatchet Guy, and "Lennie" among the crew, the latter as a reference to Of Mice and Men. This is an exceptionally well preserved puppet that appeared in The Nightmare Before Christmas in several scenes. In one memorable scene he speaks his only line, "Bunny!", upon seeing the Easter Rabbit, thus channeling John Steinbeck's timeless character. Behemoth was chemically treated to keep the rubber from breaking down, and has spent most of the last 17 years in the included plexiglas display case, and out of bright light. Behemoth stands 15 inches to the top of the hatchet handle, and the case is 17.5 inches tall. Behemoth was not the easiest puppet to animate, due to the sheer bulk of foam rubber that encases his steel ball-and-socket armature. To help Behemoth stand and sit, he was given a special "butt mount" as part of his armature. The entrance hole to that mount is clearly visible from behind, where various animation support rigs were screwed into the threaded hole within.
