This photo was found in a trunk which belonged to the notorious outlaw Jesse James. The items listed in this auction as well as five antique firearms were found in an around the trunk which was hidden in a barn on Jesse's Uncle's farm near Stamping Grounds, Kentucky. The trunk remained hidden in a dark corner under a deteriorating pile of hay for over 110 years before its discovery in 1998. These items are now up for sale in separate lots. This Photo of Jesse James was discovered with his name "Jesse Woodson" and the date 1867 written in what is believed to be Zerelda's handwriting behind the picture, on the original frame. Jesse would have been approximately 21 years old at the time. This photo on glass would have without doubt been one of the family's most beloved possessions following Jesse's death. Condition: This photo is in its original frame. The frame hinge is damaged, and the cover is unattached. The frame has moderate surface damage due to age. There is light to flaking of the photo.
