Shoes, Purse & Photo of Mary Susan James Jesse

These items were found in a trunk which belonged to the notorious outlaw Jesse James. The items listed in this auction as well as five antique firearms were found in an around the trunk which was hidden in a barn on Jesse's Uncle's farm near Stamping Grounds, Kentucky. The trunk remained hidden in a dark corner under a deteriorating pile of hay for over 110 years before its discovery in 1998. These items are now up for sale in separate lots. Please contact us for further information, more detailed descriptions, terms of sale, etc.

Jesse James married Zerelda Mimms after a nine year courtship. She was named for his own mother, Zerelda, and he called her Zee for short. They had two children, Jesse Edwards and Mary Susan. Mary Susan was born to Jesse and Zee James in June of 1879.

This tin type of her was discovered inside Zerelda's Bible. Mary Susan's birth date and location are noted in the Bible: June 17, 1879 Nashville, Tennessee. Her small leather purse and leather shoes were tucked inside the trunk along with the other family memories.

Her photo, shoes and purse have been professionally framed for display purposes and are being auctioned as one lot.

Condition: The photo is in overall good condition with scuffing due to age. The leather shoes are somewhat plyable. The purse is still intact. The frame for the photo has been added for display.
