Smith (Charlotte, poet and novelist, 1749-1806) Elegiac Sonnets, manuscript comprising title-page with two quotations from Collins and Shenstone opposite, and 32pp. text, original marbled wrappers, small 8vo.

***Elegiac Sonnets was the first book by Charlotte Smith, written during the time she spent with her husband in the debtors' prison, and published in 1784. The manuscript contains ten poems and is described on the title-page as "copied from a M.S." with CS monogram below, but it is not clear whether it is a fair copy by the author or by an admirer..
