20th Century Japanese scroll painting on silk, artist signed, 47" x 14" Provenance: From a family whose father was with the Civil Service for 35 yrs. and was a G.S. 19 rank, which is a ranking approved by Congress, at the time of his retirement. During the time they lived in Japan immediately following WWII where he became good friends with a Japanese business man who owned three silk factories, all of which were burned down in the war, named Mr. Terasaki. Mr. Terasaki had him contact an art Gallery in the U.S. to negotiate the sale of his collection of silk screens which were hidden in a cave during the war. He negotiated a price for them in 1946. As a sign of Gratitude, Mr. Terasaki gave him some of the silk screens from the collection.
