Framed Letter Signed by John Quincy Adams JOHN QUINCY ADAMS, Sixth President of the United States. Autographed Letter Signed, “J. Q. Adams,” in faded black ink, Washington, May 16, 1835, written in manuscript, 10.75” x 23” framed, Choice Very Fine. Addressed to Nicolas Biddle, American financier, as President of the Bank of the United States. The letter reads, in full, “I accept with much pleasure both your kind invitations and hope to reach Philadelphia in the Steamboat from Baltimore on Tuesday-”. Framed in a gilded frame with engravings of Adams and Biddle. John Quincy Adams was a brilliant secretary of State under President Monroe. Adams negotiated with Spain the treaty for the acquisition of Florida and wrote a good deal of the “Monroe Doctrine”. In 1824, he won the presidential election over Andrew Jackson. In 1831, he entered the US House of Representatives where, for the rest of his life, he was a champion of the antislavery faction. A beautiful piece already framed and ready for display.
