Henry Clay Free Franked Envelope plus Letter

HENRY CLAY, Outspoken Senator and Anti-Slavery Advocate.
Autograph Letter and accompanying Free Franked Cover, “H. Clay,” in brown ink, April 1820, New York, NY, 6.5” x 8”, Fine. The letter is not signed but does contain docketing information on the back. Entire text of the letter reads:
“That the sum of $50.000 be and the same is hereby appropriated for the alleviation of the suffering produced by the late calamities here in the City of Savannah in Georgia, to be applied under the deduction of the Mayor L Aldermen of the said city.”
Great Content! The Free Franked Cover is 3.25” x 5” and is addressed to Ralph Sockwoods, Esq., in New York. This address has been written over with what looks like new addresses, and remnants of a red wax stamp still cling to the cover. (2 items)
