Custer’s Wife Writes his Biography (GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER & ELIZABETH CUSTER). “Boots and Saddles”, Written by Elizabeth B. Custer, Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1885, Choice Extremely Fine. This hardbound book written by the wife of General Custer, tells the story of his life from the Battle of Bull Run down to his last fight at Little Big Horn. Measuring 7.5” x 5.5”, the book has 312 pages, including an engraving of Custer and a map. The brown cloth cover has been decorated with gilt and black accents of the sun setting over the hills. A gilt horn with music notes is printed in the upper right hand corner with music notes, next to the title: “Boots and Saddles”. In excellent condition, with owner’s inscription on first page. Mrs. Custer traveled extensively with her husband while he was in the military, so her perspective, as presented here, is very interesting. She does not, however, recount the Battle of Little Big Horn where Custer was slain--instead leading the reader up to the battle, and summarizing Custer’s tragic end.
