Document Endorsed “T Mifflin” as Governor of Pennsylvania, May 2, 1795, 13” x 8,” Very Fine. This document encompasses six pages, being a petition to Mifflin, as Governor to remit a fifteen Pound fine imposed on James McPherson, now deceased, “for keeping a disorderly house in the Town of Pittsburgh.” The widow, Rebecca McPherson, notes that her husband was a baker and “the Soldiers of the Garrison... coming to draw their bread, did frequently remain in the house & make disturbance, thought to be encouraged by the indulgence of her husband... some what addicted to drinking...” A true copy of the court judgment is included as part of the petition. With his endorsement, Mifflin agrees to remit the fine. The document is toned and has several fold splits. An interesting and unusual format for Mifflin’s signature.
