American Revolution
Complete American Spontoon from the Revolutionary War Era

Revolutionary War Era Spontoon.
A rare early American Spontoon, from the Revolutionary War era, with the original walnut shaft still intact, Fine. The head is hand forged, as is the ring that attaches it to the shaft. The shaft has been shortened at some point in the past. Most of these weapons measured about 6 feet; this one is now about 47 inches from the tip to end of the shaft. The blade measures almost 2 inches at the widest point and over 11 inches in length. Just below the attachment ring is a collar of tightly woven grass, similar in design to an Indian basket. The entire item retains a wonderful dark brown patina. Similar weapons can be seen in the book “Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution" by Neumann and Kravic, pages 219 and 248. An outstanding addition to any collection!
