According to the owner of the gallery where this item was originally purchased, "Mary LaFollette was the teenage daughter of U.S. Senator Robert M. LaFollette, Jr. when she received this book ... She showed me several of Frank Lloyd Wright's love letters to her, written in the early 1930's." One may thus assume Wright did not sign the inscription because of a possible scandal.
