View Catalog

Description

Michael J. Kirwan : Lyndon B. Johnson. 5 ¼" x 8" original, unsigned pencil sketch drawn by Johnson, United States Senate stationery, believed during the 1960 presidential campaign, depicting his long-time adversary, Robert F. Kennedy. LBJ and Kennedy both possessed a consuming dislike for each other. Bobby privately referred to the Vice President as "Uncle Cornpone," while Johnson called Kennedy, "that boy with the rickety legs." LBJ's caricature depicts an unflattering image of RFK with shark-like teeth and scrawny legs, he has added Kennedy's initials, "B. K." He has also sketched highlights and X's around the printed letterhead. This is a remarkable item, clearly indicative of the distain with which Johnson held Bobby. This unique historic item is in excellent condition.
