Description
1 ? pages, 8vo. (Second leaf clipped at bottom, remnants of mount on verso of the second leaf, small split along central fold). Hale, best known as the author of Man Without a Country, is here writing in his role as a Unitarian minister and asking for a charitable contribution to aid a Mrs. Harrington of Oneida Street who "?now has an infant child, needing everything in the way of clothing and care." The recipient is likely Stephen Fairbanks (1784-1866), a well-known Boston philanthropist. Underneath Hale's signature is a note in another hand, dated 24 October 1863 "Pd. $15? per order Mr. Fairbanks."
