Description
The discharge letter is for 2nd Leut. William L. Piley, cavalry member of the 21st New York Regiment. He was enlisted on March 4th, 1864 and discharged June 29th 1866 at Denver City CO. Letter notes that he was 5' 7.5" tall, fair skin and blue eyes. His occupation when enrolled was "fireman". Has some illegible, period marginalia. The second letter is a document noting that Capt. B.F. Reed of the CSA loaned 2 "manable" mules to J.H. Hays and "illegible" on Sept. 12th, 1864. The final pieces are 2 period soldiers hymns titled "Ellsworth's Avengers" & "Rock Me To Sleep Mother". All are in good condition.
