Model 1861 U.S. percussion rifle-musket. Contract model with lockplate marked 1864 behind hammer and U. (eagle motif) S. in front of hammer. Below hammer is Providence Tool Co. Providence RI in two lines. 40" 58 caliber barrel has a pitted bore. Metal finish is brown with light pitting on the barrel ( which is dated 1864) and hammer - the lockplate is mostly silver with light pitting. Woodstock is in very good condition and has two cartouches on flat opposite lock. The rifle comes with papers from the 7th NY Militia.
