18TH CENTURY TELESCOPE. This fine 18th century captain's spy glass is made of mahogany with brass fittings. The 10 sided mahogany barrel has a slight reversed taper and is in fine condition. Signed on the draw tube "J. GILBERT - TOWER HILL LONDON". 31" at the focal point and 26" closed. John Gilbert 11 worked at Tower Hill from 1776 - 1781. A very nice early telescope.
