TRENCH ART SHELL. U.S. Naval 'trench art' of the highest quality. The art work is done on a brass shell casing and is engraved completely by hand. The center section is hand engraved with a spread wing eagle on a branch at the top with floral decoration on either side. Below is the word "TENNESSEE" and below this is the engraving of the battleship USS Tennessee under weigh with excellent detail to the cannons, deck fixtures etc. The rear section of the shell is also engraved with American and British crossed flags and below this is engraved within a floral border "IN MEMORIES OF MY CRUISE FROM APRIL 15 TO SEPTEMBER 16 TO HONOLULU OAHU, LAHAINA, HILO HAWAII, PAGO PAGO YOYULILA, SIDNEY AUSTRALIA AND AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND - CROSSED THE EQUATOR JULY 6, 1925 IN THE USS TENNESSEE". Shell is 13 1/2" tall and mounted on a wood base and made into to table lamp originally. This truly is a museum quality piece.
