Description
In the style of Charles Looff. The Greyhound carved by Charles Looff is universally considered to be one of the great, and most significant of all carousel carvings. Extremely rare examples have appeared in major museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. On page 83 of Charlotte Dinger's classic book "Art of the Carousel" a Looff Greyhound is cited in a photograph from 1910 while another Greyhound is featured on page 116 in "Painted Ponies" by William Mann, Peggy Shank and Marianne Stevens. In April of 2006 an article appeared in The Carousel News & Trader describing four "Museum Quality" carved reproductions. This greyhound is one of those. 43" x 53".
