Description
on the back of half of a NASA June 8, 1961 "Freedom 7" Dinner Dance invitation (3.50 x 2.50") celebrating the success of the first U.S. manned space flight. NASA had well earned the right to celebrate after the successful conclusion of Shepard's flight and in true NASA engineer style, NASA staff prepared the dinner dance invitations to read in the form of a checklist, which they were so familiar; however, this checkilist is pretty amusing: "Launch Date: 8 June 1961, Pad Location: PAFB Officer's Club, Expenditure: $3.50 per person, T-240: (5:00) Clean up, T-210 (5:30) Suit up (Coat-tie/Cocktail Dress), T-190 (6:00) Pick up date," ,,, and the bottom half of this invitation was torn off. It appears that this dinner invitation had been torn in half to indicate admission to the function and the number "1" is written in the corners and middle of the back of the invitation to indiacte that 1 person was admistted with this ticket. Grissom, Glenn, Carpenter and Cooper have signed on the back side of this "checklist" invitation in blue ink This item is in the excellent condition and is a RARE artifact from the first U.S. manned space flight.
