Description
Early 19th Century 5 foot tall figurehead. From The "Ardwell", built at Quebec in 1827 of hackmatack, oak and fir. 'Snow' rig of 174 tons, classed in Lloyds register A.E.I. and in 1836 owned by Williams of Kings Lynn voyaging between that port and New England. In 1841 the vessel apparently passed to the ownership of T. Taylor of Harwich and the last records 1854 would suggest that she was then trading between Shields and Ipswich, probably ending her days as a collier brig. In 1855 her name disappeared from the register. It is interesting to note that she was originally classed as a 'Snow', a variation of the conventional brig and possibly of Canadian origin. 58" tall.
