DAVID BURLIUK (RUSSIAN-AMERICAN 1882-1967), Burliu
Description
DAVID BURLIUK (RUSSIAN-AMERICAN 1882-1967), Burliuk's Easel - an especially rare artifact of the artist from his studio, oil on wood, 19 x 71.1 cm (7 1/2 x 28 in.), signed lower right. PROVENANCE: Acquired from Nicholas Burliuk by the current owner; Private Collection, New York. While it is known that Burliuk would often paint compositions on the palettes he used for painting and sign them as finished artworks, and these palettes to appear on the market from time to time, this lot, purchased directly from the artists family by the current owner, is the first known painted and finished easel from his studio to appear on the market, and is possibly unique.
