Description
FANTASTIC PITCHER BY UNION PORCELAIN WORKS. Made in 1875 by the Union Porcelain Works, Greenpoint, New York, and designed by Karl L.H. Muller. Figural piece with a molded sea lion face for a spout and another animal, presumably a polar bear, on the handle. Relief figures in white on either side, originally described as King Gambrinus and Brother Jonathan (resembling Uncle Sam), and Bill Nye and Ah Sin. Pale peach ground with a gilt and pink handle, gray bear, and a gilt and magenta rim with hand painted border in orange, black and gilt on white. The spout is gray, ivory and pink.
