Edgefield district South Carolina stoneware jar

attributed to Rev. John Landrum Pottery, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, S.C. and most probably a slave piece. The jar was used for storing lard or meat, has an alkaline glaze and two lug handles. The piece is marked with four slash marks near the foot. Provenance: Descended to current owner through family, orginating at the Daniel Plantation in South Carolina, pre-civil war. Our thanks to Steve Ferrell at EdgefieldPottery for his assistance. 13"H,
