Description
Lot of three Supreme Court and Judge related photographs. 1ST ITEM: signed photo of Knoxville, TN Supreme Court justice, Edward T. Stanford. Black & white photograph, marked Harris & Ewing Washington D.C. Signed, "To Honorable James A. Fowler from his long time partner and friend. Affectionately, Edward T. Sanford February 19th 1923". Edward Terry Sanford (1865-1930) served as an Associate Justice on the United States Supreme Court. Sanford was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and received a B.A. and a PhD from the University of Tennessee, a B.A. from Harvard University in 1885, an M.A. from Harvard University in 1889, and an LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1889. He was in private practice in Knoxville, TN from 1890 to 1907, and was a lecturer at the University of Tennessee School of Law from 1898 to 1907. Sanford also served as an Assistant Attorney General in 1907 under President Theodore Roosevelt. Overall very good condition with some light spots near lower left corner of photograph. 12-1/4" x 16-1/4" framed. 2ND ITEM: Large black and white photographic print of the U.S. Supreme Court 1911 with Edward Douglass White as the Chief Justice. Photographic print marked in lower left corner, "Copyright by Clindedinst 1911 Washn D.C." Overall very good condition. 23-5/8" x 27-1/2" framed. 3RD ITEM: Framed black and white photograph of a sitting judge, lower margins marked "Portrait by Knaffl and Brakebill Knoxville, Tennessee." In handwritten script below, "To Hon. and Mrs. James A Fowler Sincerely ??sp". Overall excellent condition. 12" x 17". Note: James A. Fowler was an U.S. Assistant Attorney General and mayor of Knoxville from 1928-1929.
