A Fine Egyptian Faience Bead Necklace
Egypt, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1295 BC. Comprising of a double strand of bright blue-glazed faience beads with contrasting red-brown cylindrical spacers. Restrung for modern wear and fitted with a gold clasp and chain. A lovely piece.
The cylindrical spherical beads are the pure earthy colors that the Egyptians associated with magical power: the tan and brown beads represented the rich alluvial soil from the Nile floods, essential to grow crops; the warm blues representing new life, rejuvenation, and rebirth. Dimensions: Drop Length (Adjustable): 19.05-22.86cm (7-1/2" to 9").
PROVENANCE: Ex-private Delaware Collection.
