Description
Egypt, Late Period, ca. 26th - 30th Dynasty, 662 to 330 BC. Wax figure of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet. Sekhmet was represented by the searing heat of the mid-day sun (in this aspect she was sometimes called "Nesert", the flame) and was a terrifying goddess. However, for her friends she could avert plague and cure disease. She was the patron of Physicians, and Healers and her priests became known as skilled doctors. Made of cast bee's wax - amazing that it has survived over 2000 years! 4-5/8"H.
