Description
Buff-coloured with decoration in black and red slip (matt painted), showing various geometric and vegetal motifs, among them a frieze with a wreath of ivy, strap-work, an encircling wavy band and metope-like decorations in the lower part. The interior of the flaring lip of both vessels decorated with ovolo, on the handle a series of V-shaped decorations over metopes with Andreas crosses.
A similar double situla sold at Christie's New York, sale 2007, 4 June 2008, lot 212, for US$ 8,750 (= € 5,665).
Dimensions: Overall height 20 cm., without the handle 15.5 cm.; length 28 cm.; diameter of each vessel circa 12 cm.
